The City of Toronto has announced it will use a $25-million donation from two local philanthropists to build a new trail and “cultural spaces” on the unused land under the Gardiner Expressway. The initiative, called “Project: Under Gardiner,” is a partnership between the city and Waterfront Toronto that aims to transform approximately 10 acres of unused land under the expressway into “vibrant community spaces that will play host to a range of cultural programming.” (Source: CTV News Toronto)

For this project the City of Toronto and Waterfront Toronto have released a "Request for Proposal" (RFP) where they look for companies that are specialized in planning, risk analysis and quantification services. The Dutch Consulate General in Toronto believes Dutch companies can play an important role in these developments and we therefore share this summary of the RFP:

“Waterfront Toronto invites all qualified firms to submit a Proposal for scheduling, risk analysis and quantification services for the Project: Under Gardiner, which is a collaboration between Waterfront Toronto, philanthropists Judy and Wil Matthews (the Matthews), and the City of Toronto. Project: Under Gardiner will create a new pedestrian and cycling trail, connections and programmable cultural spaces in the 10 acres of unused space under the Gardiner Expressway between Strachan Ave and Spadina Ave.

The site is comprised of unused public lands, public spaces adjacent to new developments, and an area within the Fort York National Historic Site and adjacent to the Fort York Visitor Centre.

This RFP is seeking qualified firms and/or teams with the required experience, qualifications and resources to aid Waterfront Toronto in developing a cutting-edge and progressive model for governance of Project: Under Gardiner.
