Vancouver Economic Commission in The Netherlands

The Vancouver Economic Commission (VEC) has conducted a market research to green building developments (2019-2032). Focusing on the developments and demand in the green building sector in Vancouver. On the 6th and 7th of June two team members of the VEC visited the Netherlands and met with Annemarie van Doorn, director of the Dutch Green Building Council to discuss some of the findings of the research, providing an overview of Vancouver’s policy and regulatory environment, and the market opportunities that will emerge.

Blue Cities Conference

On the 7th and 8th of May, Blue Cities will this place. It is a conference for water executives to exchange insights and shape transformative actions for municipal water management and is the annual flagship event of the Canadian Municipal Water Consortium. Dutch water professionals are a frequent quest in Canada and they will be represented during this event as well.

On 7 May a panel discussion about the potential for resource recovery in Canada will take place. Jantienne van der Meij from Watercampus Leeuwarden will join the debate.

AZ Awards Gala

On the 21st of June the AZ Awards Gala will take place in Toronto. This includes the awarding of the international design and architecture competition organized by the leading Canadian AZURE Magazine. This year two Dutch designs have been nominated. The first Dutch finalist is nominated within the category “Commercial/Institutional Interiors” and includes the interior design of the Princessehof Museum in Leeuwarden by i29 Interior Architects (left picture by Ewout Huibers).

Interview Cedric Burgers – Why Passive House could be the answer to the challenge of developing sustainable houses in Canada

Cedric Burgers is the principal architect at Burgers Architecture in Vancouver. Because of his Dutch background and passion for sustainable housing he was  interviewed  for Parallel52. The background of Burgers lays with his Dutch parents that studied in the Netherlands and moved to Vancouver, where they started their architectural firm. Cedric studied in Canada and worked in Germany as an architect before working at Burgers Architecture.​

Recently a news article with this title was published. The article gives insight into the adventures of Jaga, one of our Dutch partners, in Canada and the USA. There is a need for decreasing the energy-use of buildings and Jaga provides among other things, radiators that make this possible. This has resulted in around 750 employees worldwide. Currently they are delivering material for the Vancouver House in Canada e.g.
